From July 2024, Hungary took over the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union, whose role is to coordinate the Council’s cooperation. The Hungarian presidency has set the goal of reconciling economic growth and environmental sustainability, especially in the field of the biomass-based economy.

Fertilisers play a critical role in food production and security. At the peak of gas prices in 2022, gas accounted for 90% of the variable production cost of nitrogen fertilizers, resulting in a 149% increase in nitrogen fertiliser prices for EU farmers as of September 2022 compared to September 2021. This surge was even more significant compared to 2020, with the price of fertilisers reaching historical highs, peaking at a 350% increase, and averaging around 250%.

(BZN), Ökológiai Mezőgazdasági Kutatóintézet (ÖMKi) Regionális Információs és Fejlesztő Tudásközpont Kft (RCISD) and  Geonardo Környezetvédelmi, Térinformatikai és Regionális Projektfejlesztő Kft.  (GEO) will be joining the Bioeconomy Changemakers festival by organising a webinar on bioeconomy. This event is organised in Hungarian language.

GEO takes part in BIObec final event
On 30 January, the BIObec online event opened with the project coordinator, Davide Viaggi from Bologna University, welcoming participants. Then, the Project Officer from The Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking took the floor to explain the project background. They were followed by the Bio-based Industries Consortium representative, who spoke about creating a circular bio-society by 2050 by enhancing skills and competencies for bioeconomy as part of their goals. The Project coordinator gave an overview of the BIObec project which aims at building bridges between the bio-based industry and the education system by interlinking universities, innovation labs, and R&D centres with industrial actors and regions.
