FoodRUs

Project Description:
The objective of FoodRUs is to enhance the resilience and sustainability of local and regional European food systems by deploying and demonstrating the value of 12 innovative solutions replicated in 3 complementary regions across Europe. Through promoting sustainable and cooperative models for prevention, reutilisation, recovery and valorisation of food losses and waste, paying special attention on perishable food including cooked food. A Circular Food Data Management Platform (FoodRUs Suite), based on Fiware and Blockchain technologies, will provide stakeholders efficient data management with tangible criteria and operational decision-making tools to holistically and cooperatively enhance the effectiveness of the deployed strategies.

 

Geonardo's Role:

As a partner in FoodRUs, Geonardo led efforts in stakeholder empowerment, fostering collaboration among key actors to tackle food loss and waste. Additionally, Geonardo took the lead in developing a comprehensive e-learning platform on food loss and waste, which became available in 11 languages.

 

Key Contributions:

• Capacity Building & E-Learning: We developed a comprehensive e-learning platform featuring eight interactive thematic modules with downloadable content and resources. Designed for a wide range of stakeholders—including citizens, food and drink industry representatives, and municipal authorities—the platform provided in-depth insights and solutions to address food loss and waste effectively.

• Citizen Science & Co-Creation: In collaboration with local partners, Geoanrdo led the planning of citizen science initiatives at the FoodRUs pilot sites in Spain, Slovakia, and Denmark. These co-creative activities took place within a Living Lab framework, engaging communities in hands-on actions to reduce food waste and loss.

• Impact-Driven Dissemination: As a key contributor to other work packages, Geonardo ensured that project outcomes were effectively disseminated, fostering knowledge exchange and real-world application.
